A Custom Home Blending Pacific Northwest Influence with Texas Warmth

Just south of Fort Worth, The Cornerstone is a custom home rooted in connection, nature, and intentional everyday living.

Our clients came into this project with a unique perspective. Having previously built a home in Oregon that they never fully got to settle into, they knew this next home needed to feel different- more personal, more lived-in, and more reflective of who they are today.

They were drawn to the modern organic, Pacific Northwest aesthetic they loved, but also wanted to embrace the warmth and hospitality that comes with living in Texas. From the beginning, the goal wasn’t to choose one style over the other, it was to find the balance.

Working closely with the architect, we helped shape a home that feels deeply connected to both the land and the lifestyle it supports. Every material- from the stone and mortar technique to the stucco, black windows, and roofing- was selected with intention, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

Our Approach

With new construction, the opportunity isn’t about fixing problems, it’s about getting it right from the start.

For The Cornerstone, that meant designing every space around how this family truly lives. We focused on creating natural flow, layering materials for warmth and texture, and ensuring that each space felt both functional and emotionally connected.

The result is a home that feels grounded, cohesive, and personal- where no detail feels accidental.

Key Spaces & Design Details

Entry + Courtyard

Rather than a traditional entry, we designed the home around a central courtyard that immediately sets the tone.

As you walk in, your eye moves straight through the home to the backyard, pool, and landscape beyond. Wrapped on three sides by the house and open to the rear, the courtyard creates a layered indoor-outdoor experience from the very first step inside.

Floor-to-ceiling black windows frame the space, while native plants, gravel, and a simple seating area keep the design soft and grounded. It’s calm, quiet, and intentionally different- an entry that slows you down and draws you in.

Great Room + Piano Lounge

The main living space was designed to feel open and connected without losing a sense of comfort.

A baby grand piano became a defining feature of the home- not something tucked away, but something fully integrated into daily life. We created a dedicated Piano Lounge around it, designed for both quiet moments and full-house gatherings.

Floor-to-ceiling stone carries from the exterior into the main fireplace wall, grounding the space and adding warmth and texture. Layered lighting and continuous engineered wood flooring help maintain a cohesive, modern organic feel throughout.

This is where the home truly comes to life- music playing, conversations happening, and people gathered together.

Kitchen + Dining

The kitchen was designed to support both everyday living and frequent entertaining, fully open to the main living space.

Custom rift-sawn white oak cabinetry introduces warmth and depth, while marble countertops elevate the space without making it feel formal. A 13-foot 6-inch island anchors the room, functioning as both a prep space and a natural gathering point, eliminating the need for a separate breakfast area.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining space is defined by a white oak ceiling treatment that brings the scale down and adds intimacy. It’s a subtle detail that softens the feel of new construction and makes the space feel more lived-in.

Outdoor Living

From the beginning, outdoor living was treated as an extension of the home- not an afterthought.

Large sliding doors connect the interior living space to a fully designed outdoor area complete with lounge seating, dining, and a full kitchen and grill. Positioned alongside the pool and visually tied back to the courtyard, the space reinforces a consistent flow throughout the home.

Whether hosting or enjoying a quiet evening outside, it feels just as intentional as any room indoors.

Primary Suite

Tucked away from the main living areas, the primary suite was designed as a quiet, private retreat.

One of the most distinctive features is a set of antique doors connecting the bedroom and bathroom. This detail introduces a sense of history and character, adding warmth and making the space feel more layered and personal.

Game Room

Designed with both current and future family life in mind, the game room serves as a true gathering space.

It includes a large sectional, a full pool table, a puzzle table, and a kitchenette- everything needed to make it a go-to hangout. A gallery wall adds personality, while its connection to nearby bedrooms and the backyard keeps it integrated into the overall flow of the home.

Office

The office was intentionally designed to feel different from the rest of the home.

While most spaces lean light and natural, this room is color-drenched and moody, creating a more focused and grounded environment. It still maintains a connection to the courtyard, but in a quieter, more private way.

A Home That Feels Like Them

At its core, The Cornerstone is about more than materials or layout, it’s about creating a home that reflects where this family has been and where they’re going.

By blending Pacific Northwest influence with Texas warmth, we were able to design a home that feels elevated, personal, and deeply connected to everyday life.

It’s a space that not only looks beautiful but feels just as good to live in.
